The Tallest Mayor doesn't specify mosques, oddly. But my favorite part is at the end, when he promises to close uncooperative houses of worship permanently.

A friend I was chatting with this afternoon said one of the hottest (covid-filled) areas of NY is the Williamsburg Brooklyn neighborhood, home of the Hasidic community. He said the Hasidim are particularly bad at paying attention to directives about social distancing.

So can we look forward to the image of NY's Finest rousting Hasidim in their prayer shawls from worship services and shutting down their synagogues?

    Permanently?

I can't imagine that last little threat is constitutional at all. But Bill DeBlasio is really tall, and really, really liberal.

I don't see how any directive like that wouldn't include mosques or satanists or any other group that met regularly including those wine-drenched book clubs some attend.

I'm sure it does, it's just that Muslims can't be named.

DeBlasio and his city leaders were particularly egregious as Covid Deniers, so this looks like a defensive backlash. I saw a tweet in which somebody wrote, (quoting for memory) "What is it about this crisis that makes people like DeBlasio think they can ignore the Constitution?"

One thing's certain. If this totalitarian impulse isn't checked, it will multiply, finding more excuses to act. It's like impeaching the president. It was a monumental, once-a-century event (Johnson, and woulda-been-Nixon); but arguably cheapened by the Clinton episode, and twenty years later debased thoroughly by Pelosi, Schiff and the spiteful Democrats.

This is my big concern. History is stuffed with examples of people going insane during any crisis and suddenly deciding to impose their worst impulses on everybody else. This isn't a possibility, it's a near probability.

There's something about any disruption that brings out the inner fascist in a lot of people.

Thank goodness the Minders at Twitter are there to curb our enthusiasm:

Twitter Removes Tweet Reporting ‘Hydroxychloroquine’ As Treatment For Wuhan Virus
Twitter removed a tweet from Fox New host Laura Ingraham that suggested hospitals using hydroxychloroquine as treatment for the Wuhan coronavirus are showing promising results, despite the FDA’s approval of the drug for emergency use.

“Lenox Hill in New York among many hospitals already using hydroxychloroquine with very promising results. One patient was described as ‘Lazarus’ who was seriously ill from Covid-19, already released,” Ingraham tweeted.
According to Mediaiate, a Twitter spokesperson said Ingraham’s tweet falls under Twitter’s “misleading information policy under heightened-risk health claims.”

Twitter is censoring the successful use of a drug which is already approved by the FDA.

On Sunday, March 29, the FDA approved the malaria drug for emergency use for patients with COVID-19. According to Yahoo! Finance, the drug is currently being tested in New York hospitals.

According to the FDA, taking hydroxychloroquine sulfate “may benefit certain patients hospitalized with COVID-19 for whom a clinical trial is not available, or participation is not feasible.”

Hey, I haven't been able to make a really decent michelada for days!

Fortunately, I found the lime hook-up across town this afternoon. Five fresh new limes ready for dicing, along with a couple of beautiful artichokes for steaming.

Still no toilet paper, though, and this situation may get serious in a couple of days....
