    Democrats running for President 2020

May we raise children who love the unloved things - the dandelion, the worm, the spiderlings.
Children who sense the rose needs the thorn and run into rainswept days the same way they turn towards the sun...
And when they're grown and someone has to speak for those who have no voice,
may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the one.

I'm thinking that once, in 1953, a group of interesting people just happened to be in a coffee shop at the same time and a great discussion of issues, ideas, and the meaning of life occurred. Since then we have been waiting at Starbucks for Lawrence Ferlinghetti to say something heavy.

Ocasio-Cortez has sucked all the oxygen out of the Democratic tent. She gives beauty tips now.

That she's a ditz with a degree doesn't matter. She's really pretty and bubbly and committed to socialism, whatever that is (it's not Venezuala of course), she can dance; who wouldn't want her at your party?

So the 2020 crew above chase this dotty debutante however they can, and one way is getting out front in the support of leftwing policies, mindful that rationality doesn't matter. You can leave all that behind with the doddering Bernie Sanders and his many humble houses. Would AOC's freebies cost us north of $42 trillion? Who cares?! It's the promise that counts. Kamaha Harris, the prone prosecutor, just promised even more! Cue the cheers.

The Democrats are ebullient at their 2018 election win in the House, and also with Pelosi's slap-down of the president. They can taste victory in 2020. I think they misread the election win, mostly because of the glittering exception to the rule that Ocasio Cortez is.

The way to a Democratic House majority was paved by a large contingent of retiring Republican incumbents. (And by the new idea of "vote harvesting," but that's a different thread.) Without that wave of retirements, in a body where over 90% of incumbents are routinely returned to office, the climb to a majority by the Dems would have been far more difficult. However, most of the victorious Democrats who flipped seats ran as relative moderates.

New, leftist Democrats are repudiating the policies of their Democratic leaders of just a very few years ago. They are chasing the enthusiasm of a fact-free ideologue, and trying to stay ahead of the intemperate internet police.

It is going to be fun to watch the Leftists eat their own, but Howard Shultz is old and white, and three years too conservative. Going nowhere.
"We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them." —CNN's Don Lemon, showing how to stop demonizing people.

I don't understand how anyone can look in her eyes and not think she's nuts.
