    You win the thread!

What makes this even more unusual in my eyes is that Mississippi has been reported to have the highest rate of interracial couples of any state in the union. Certainly my own experience living there would point to that being an accurate assessment. Denying those people a venue would seem like a poor business choice.

It wouldn't surprise me that strong anti-gay marriage views still hold strong in that part of the state, but interracial marriage seems to have been accepted a long time ago there.

I've never understood why people think it's against Christian belief to date somebody of another race. Moses went outside of his ethnicity.

It is interesting to me that interracial marriages/partnerships/dating is far more prevalent in the south than in the north. I'm not sure why, exactly.

Fewer southerners are racist than northerners, the northerners just don't admit it in public - but would NEVER allow a son or a daughter to marry outside of their race. Usually it's cloaked as not being from the "correct" church or synagogue, not being from a familiar family, etc.

I don't know about all of that, but my personal impression is that there is a whole lot more lifelong mixing of races (friendships as well as marriages and child-raising couples) in the "working classes," the lower socioeconomic strata, as we like to say—rather than in the monied classes, the educated elites.

"We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them." —CNN's Don Lemon, showing how to stop demonizing people.

Can you think of a better way to piss off the parents that doesn't also risk incarceration?

I'm thinking that a lot of people really do see it that way. They believe their cultures are too different or whatever. The church I used to go to years ago would have gotten heart broken about somebody marrying a Catholic of any race.

Of course, there was one man who stopped going to church because one daughter married a black man and the other Hispanic. I think he felt like God had forsaken him or something. Both of them had babies by them. He finally got over himself at some point.

The preacher constantly prays for his niece. She got married by a black man and married him. He feels she's going to Hell. I was like "Why? She is married to him, right?" He couldn't seem to answer the question. He claims not to be against inter-racial marriage, but I think he might have a thing against going against a parent's wishes. I figure what's done is done. They're married now, so support it. lol. I also think one might be miserable if they let their parents or anybody else dictate the rest of their lives.

I tend to agree with Newman, who is unquotable at the moment.
