    Absurdities

There seems to be an explosion of unhinged, over the top, novel, and simply loony antics generated by leftists and those looking to be forgiven by leftists.

The Boy Scouts of America have a new merit badge for diversity and inclusion. Tim (“I’ve never lost a race”) Kaine has joined the army of history revisionists, declaring that America “created” slavery. Google has pretty much dropped the mask and is openly censoring conservative speech, even colluding with NBC to do so. The young punk walking down a New York City street who cold-cocked a 92-year-old woman was arrested the next morning; it turns out the police recognized him from the viral video. He had been arrested 101 times. A young activist wants his statue taken down, but she has no idea who Winston Churchhill is.

Maybe “dropping the mask” is what we are really seeing. Maybe our brains are so addled we deserve what we get. Maybe there are not enough grownups left to keep the ship afloat.

I hope otherwise, and we’ll see.

    • “Weakness is refusing to take responsibility for your own actions, weakness is pointing your finger at someone else in a time of crisis." — Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, blaming Trump.
    • "We hold these truths to be self evident. All men and women created by the, you know, you know, the thing." —Joe Biden, explaining the Creator.
    • "The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." —Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
    • “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.” —Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.
    • "We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them." —CNN's Don Lemon, showing how to stop demonizing people.

Nothing addled except those who are addled. We are seeing the leftists dropping the mask. They are emboldened. Notice how Celeste and Nova are now not "far left" when 10 years ago they were - they haven't changed positions in that time, they are the same people with the same beliefs. Now 12 years ago Celeste had a change of opinion on the 2nd Amendment, but that's mostly it. She and her brother are the same left of center people most of us here have known for 16 years or so.

The far left is dropping the mask and showing us how far left they are - thinking we're scared of them.
"What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people. January 20th 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer."

Doesn’t add up. What year do you think the lunch meet up you didn’t make happened? I moved to bush Alaska in ‘92

Well, the point is that most of us are really 'classical liberals' even if others would label some or all of us as 'conservatives'. We're into that freedom/liberty thing with a healthy dose of accountability and responsibility. We're for equality but not "equal outcomes". We know there is no such thing. We're for 'equal opportunity' but not special opportunity. We're tolerant but not always supportive. Those two things aren't synonyms.

We may disagree but we generally like and respect each other.

That's not where the Left is these days. You not only have to agree, you have buy the entire package or you are EVIL. You aren't simply EVIL, you have to lose your job, have a mob show up at your house, and have your children and spouse punished as much as possible. If you have a dog, somebody will kick it. If you dare to pay and eat foods in a restaurant, somebody will spit in it or drive you out of the restaurant or follow you and scream like a toddler.

If you are old, somebody will just punch you for walking on the street (they assume all old people are Republicans).

This is way beyond, "Oh, you didn't vote the way you should." We're getting into, "She's a witch!" territory.

You know how they know you're a witch? They think you look like one.

”We” ARE scared of them. Look at poor Drew Brees and his endless, hopeless apologies. So many people ruined for nothing.

It’s like the McCarthy Blacklist era with different targets. I’m not sure how far to push that comparison. The present hysteria seems much more dangerous to our republic than the earlier one if only because formerly the witch hunters had the avowed aim of protecting it, whereas the present horde of inquisitors aim to “radically transform“ it.

(In a small way CHAZ is helpful here. It shows such a “radical transformation” chasing itself like the tigers in “Little Black Sambo,” ending up as a pile of butter.)

And of course all of us are in effect survivors of the past; we know how it turned out. The present offers no such reassuring words.

More upside down absurdity, as the press decides that journalism is about LESS information being available. Newspapers are deciding to withhold pictures of criminals and miscreants—no more rogues galleries—because too many are people of color.

At minimum they should run a disclaimer: “We will no longer print pictures of criminals because they are likely to be people of color.”

That should do it. Or the more likely result: “We will only show pictures of criminals if they are white.”

One could argue they’ve played this game for some time. Akin to the game of hiding the Party label of a misbehaving Democrat.

Even so it’s a new achievement in journalism: less is better.

Newspeak. The only language that grows smaller every year.

Smaller, dumber, less informative, and less useful. Like everything now: art, education, journalism, science, history, and even knowledge itself.
