    Replacing the National Anthem

seems to be the latest "cancel" rage.

Over the years replacing the anthem has come up a lot, usually because the present one is "hard to sing." And usually "American the Beautiful" is suggested, sometimes "God Bless America."

Not this time. One recurring suggestion is "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing," which by the way is very hard to sing, and really is not suited for a national anthem, regardless of its nickname, "The Negro National Anthem."

Another alternative often mentioned just now is Lennon's "Imagine," which I'd call "The Atheist National Anthem." Author Kevin Powell calls Lennon's song "the most beautiful, unifying, all-people, all-backgrounds-together kind of song you could have." If you leave out people of faith, I guess.

Anyway, in the spirit of these times, I suggest we replace the National Anthem with Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA."

There's the most beautiful, unifying, all-people, all-backgrounds-together kind of song you could have. I should send Chuck and Nancy a note.

I am perfectly fine with replacing the National Anthem. I suggest we replace it with 52 seconds of sound clips of a GAU-8 30mm rotary cannon from an A-10 Warthog. Won’t be easy to sing, of course, but it will be an attention getter at the Olympics...
I will show you de way....

You Trumpsters are smart to ramp up the performative patriotism.
"Everything wrong with America is manifested in Trump. The hunger for power, the vile derision of people who don’t look like you, the cruelty, the privilege, the gleeful ignorance, and mendacious narcissism. Our revulsion at Trump is causing Americans to ask: How did we get to this place? And how do we get out? That will take time and hard work by well-intentioned people from every corner of American society."

What you would like to see will eventually piss off enough people to spark the backlash. I deon't usually predict the future, but the backlash for this Progressive shit will be fierce. Clearly, the people threatening a revolution can't do math. This isn't Russia or China and we aren't starving peasants.

    "Performative patriotism." I love that.

Very academically precise, and very obscure, and for the general public a bit of new political argot, a blank vessel to be shaped by the user before honesty catches up to it.

Here it drips of condescension. "Performative patriotism," for a moment, is more economical and sophisticated than stringing together adjectives like cheap, superficial, or the newly popular cult-like.

"Performative," however, just means the saying is the doing. Any pledge will do, for example, and that certainly doesn't mean such pledges are trivial or insincere.

Report: NFL Expected to Play Black National Anthem Before Season Opening Games
The NFL reportedly plans to play a song titled, Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing, also known as the Black National Anthem, prior to every season opening game this year.

The song, according to a source to ESPN, will be played prior to the Star-Spangled-Banner.
I'll safely speculate that such sops will not placate anyone in the "radical transformation" movement.

This bit at the end of the Breitbart report, is much worse than stupid:
The NFL is also reportedly considering other social justice measures, such as listing the names of victims of alleged police brutality on team uniforms.
    What shit is this?

Is the announcer going to say, "At left tackle, number 83, George Floyd"? or "Unbelievable run by Freddie Gray,"

or "Number 28, Michael Brown, waits for the kick-off. . . he signals a fair catch. . . 'Hands up, don't tackle,' you might say. . . ."

Well, they can lose more of their target audience.
