    Trump impeached again

The FOX headline makes it sound sane:

Trump impeached by House over Capitol riots, becomes first president to face rebuke twice
The House of Representatives Wednesday made history by voting to impeach President Trump for a second time for "incitement of insurrection" after a mob of his supporters besieged the Capitol on Jan. 6 in a failed attempt to stop the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's electoral college win.

The House voted 232-197 to impeach the president. Ten Republicans joined with Democrats.

Trump has just one week left in office, but the supporters of the impeachment push say Trump is too dangerous to stay in office a minute longer. The impeachment resolution condemns Trump for spreading lies that he won the election in a landslide and whipping up a crowd of supporters in Washington D.C. before the riot that killed five people, including a Capitol Police officer.

"The bottom line is this: This Capitol was stormed. People died because of the big lies that were being told by this president, and by too many people on the other side of the aisle. Enough," said Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., in a floor speech before the vote. "People should be outraged as to what happened. It was unforgivable, unconscionable.

"The president of the United States instigated an attempted coup in this country," McGovern continued. "People died. Everybody should be outraged. Whether you're a Democrat or Republican. If this is not an impeachable offense. I don't know what the hell is. This president is not fit to remain in office."
McConnell is playing games of some sort:

McConnell says he has 'not made a final decision' on how he will vote on Trump impeachment
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Republican colleagues Wednesday that he has "not made a final decision" on how he will vote on impeachment, despite signaling that he supported House Democrats’ move to initiate the proceedings against President Trump.

"While the press has been full of speculation, I have not made a final decision on how I will vote, and I intend to listen to the legal arguments when they are presented to the Senate," McConnell told Senate Republicans.

McConnell’s comment comes after sources told Fox News that McConnell is "done" and "furious" with the president, and as the House considered an article of impeachment against Trump, saying he incited "insurrection" ahead of the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. The impeachment resolution was approved Wednesday afternoon by a vote of 232-197, with 10 Republicans joining all House Democrats in favor.

One source told Fox News on Tuesday that McConnell does not see House Democrats’ efforts to impeach Trump as a partisan exercise like the previous impeachment effort in 2019.

Another source told Fox News that McConnell confided to associates that impeachment will help rid the Republican Party of Trump and his movement.

The New York Times first reported that McConnell was pleased that House Democrats introduced an article of impeachment against Trump.
"Rid the Republican Party of Trump and his movement"?

If McConnell imagines there will be even a stump left of the Republican Party in this country after a stunt like this, he is crazier than bat-shit crazy.

I have no idea what's going on, but I know that if they eject from office a duly elected president in a vicious, malignant wave of partisan bile like this, with only a handful of hours remaining in his term, there will be blood, and there will be an irretrievably divided country with a blood-red river of hate and mistrust running through it.

Until this moment it was inconceivable to me that such a incendiary act would be remotely considered in this once-great nation.

WTF.... those congress idiots were giving reasons why Trump must be impeached.
Shit, most of them haven't been in DC for months and I'd bet none of them have seen the floor of Congress before 10:00 am in decades.

Can someone explain what they are going to gain?
What is the long game of this?

    • "Thieves only carry weapons for self-protection and to provide the householder an incentive to cooperate." — Texas State House Rep. Terry Meza, proposing to bar "castle defense" protection for victims of home invasions.

To answer Gramps above, the left aims to swap out the republic for power.

The House can move quickly when Americans who aren't harmed by Democrat policies aren't involved.

The Republican "leadership" (whatever that may be at this point) just pissed off about half the country.
They forget that the primary reason for Trump in the first place was the throng of people that felt completely ignored and unrecognized by the GOP and in many cases, the Democratic Party.

Frankly, at this point, I do not believe this is about Trump. This is about putting those who voted for Trump back in their place. They are using the actions of a few hundred people that actually entered the Capitol building to marginalize millions that are just plain fed up with the federal government pandering to fat cats, lobbyists, and foreign interests.

To the supposed leaders, the majority of the country, regardless of their political compass, are not citizens to be governed but sheep to be fleeced. The media and their lackeys primarily serve as useful idiots to keep the flock either satiated or misdirected as we are figuratively led through the chutes to our slaughter.
    We are so fucked.

Sorry, Newman. It is not really the Left as you put it. It is the politically powerful and connected regardless of political persuasion.
The last few months have shown that the GOP will fuck it's base for 30 pieces of silver just as quickly.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
    We are so fucked.

The House, with a complicit Senate, has played this soap opera out for the last year and the Chinese Death Flu was their perfect catalyst.
Pols and pundits want to call this a coup and they are somewhat correct to a point. They have completely taken over the People.

When they can by any means or for any reason dictate every aspect of your life by determining when and where you can work, whom and when you can associate, what businesses may or may not serve its customers, they have gone from the leaders they claim to be to the rulers and overlords they have long salivated.

We are no longer citizens to them, we are now subjects.

And it only cost 350,000 lives which is much less than it cost other countries.

I guess we should consider ourselves lucky.

    So far.
    We are so fucked.

I doubt I can ever vote for a Republican again. We've lost the Republic so it doesn't matter anyway. Thank God I'm old enough to not live through this ruin and I have no hostages to the future.

I'll vote local elections but I doubt I will vote federal (D) or (R) again, not that my vote or my choice matters anyway.

As much as I dislike admitting it, CW was right about 1 thing.

There is also a scorched earth component with this.

Trump must be impeached in an attempt to keep him on the sidelines in the next Presidential.

They cannot leave any stone unturned because Trump, an outsider, cannot be allowed to disrupt the anointed in DC ever again.
