The beatings will continue until morale improves.
I've long believed the Democrats were foolishly confident the Left would be their natural allies, being about social justice and all. They courted one radical faction after another.

The Left is the muscle, shades of Melissa Click.

The Left is amoral and violent. They are about destroying everything America is, including, literally, the people who champion it.

Their goal is not to govern.

The left-leaning elite of both Parties and private business do aim to govern, first and foremost in order to protect their own interests and wealth. The value of their enlightened leadership is worth it, and more, so why not enjoy dining in the French Laundry at $1200 per?

I really don't know what the left-leaning elite of former death-dealing regimes were thinking when they supported them early on. The Nazi SS, Mussolini's Blackshirts, Mao's Red Guards, for example; dictators usually have organized enforcers in their organization. And the slaughterhouses don't start out as slaughterhouses. Did the elites of those times say they opposed violence, and pull the covers over their ears during Kristallnacht?

The elite, the "politically powerful and connected regardless of political persuasion," believe they are in charge of the thugs, and that they are protected from them by virtue of ideological solidarity. (“I am here tonight to stand with you,” says Mayor Wheeler to jeers from the objects of his wooing.) Fear, basically.

I've read that people are constantly surprised by how quickly the grip of fascism overtakes a society, like a large snake suddenly encoiling its victim. I think I heard the First Amendment shatter last week, especially Friday night. The cockiness of the emerging autocrats is burning bright, so much so that one luminary, admits their power sets a "dangerous precedent," which words may be more a threat than any reflective epiphany.
    • "Are you going to be responsible for the rioting if we hear this case?" — Chief Justice Roberts, who apparently had a secret codicil to his oath of office.
    • "Thieves only carry weapons for self-protection and to provide the householder an incentive to cooperate." — Texas State House Rep. Terry Meza, proposing to bar "castle defense" protection for victims of home invasions.
    • "The way I see it, there's always, c'mon, there's always money. It's there." — Elizabeth Warren, explaining socialism.
    • “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.... We really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.” — Saikat Chakrabarti, then AOC's Chief of Staff.
    • "We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them." — CNN's Don Lemon, showing how to stop demonizing people.

Doesn't get much more of a waste of taxpayer money than this.

Oddly enough, that's almost verbatim what I wrote back to my Congressional Representative when she emailed me, bragging about having voted for it.

I made certain to mention that I'm a lifelong Democrat.

Even if I thought Trump deserved to be impeached, this was a futile gesture and a waste of time and money.
"Think as I think," said a man,

    You are a toad."
And after I had thought of it,

The guy is out of his job in a couple of days. When I was a supervisor I never bothered bring up personnel actions if an employee was quitting or getting fired. What's the point?

It just wastes everybody's time. Here's a box, clear out your stuff, hand me your credentials, have a nice life - somewhere else.

Yes. Wonder how many other voters have seen this circus and think the same thing.
